Maryland MMA Fighter Jon Delbrugge improved his professional MMA record to 7-2 on Saturday, October 24th, 2015. Jon had his second fight with an organization known as Shogun Fights in Downtown Baltimore at the Royal Farms Arena, which is relatively close to his Howard County home.

He was able to sell out every single ticket for his 170 pound bout to his Crazy 88 family. His original fight was supposed to be at 155 pounds, but his original opponent pulled out and another opportunity arose at 170, so he took it. Jon easily made the weight alongside “weigh-in wing man” Chris Tran and then bulked back up with sushi and rice the night before.

Jon fought directly after friend DJ Jackson, who won by unanimous decision. Right before Jon went, a huge fight broke out in the stands on the lower level of the venue. It appeared that the fight escalated from an argument between two women right before Jon’s opponent walked out to the cage. Once security stepped in and the disturbance was resolved, the fight went on.

In the first round, Jon switched between holding his opponent, Willie Floyd, in the clinch and attempting single legs numerous times. While unable to land any strikes, his adversary was able to prevent the takedown for the majority of the round.  This went on until one minute remained when Delbrugge finally got the takedown, and applied some ground and pound, ending the round in Jon’s favor.

Baltimore MMA fighter, Jon Delbrugge utilized effective strikes despite being known for his Jiu Jitsu background.

In the second round, Jon went into the round with the same gameplan, but he executed it better than before. He hit his opponent with a strong right hand which knocked him down. Following him to the mat, Delbrugge went right into the ground and pound system and finished with an arm triangle for the tap.

Ground and Pound set up the Arm Triangle finish for Jon’s seventh professional Mixed Martial Arts victory.

Jon celebrated his seventh professional MMA win with his family and team that night. A few days later, Jon got a call for another fight which is scheduled to be in three weeks for the welterweight title – this time in the famed Ring of Combat.  That fight may turn out to be Jon’s last fight for a little while as he gets ready for the arrival of his first born child in December and hopefully a call from the UFC matchmaker.
