This past weekend, Coach Jon Delbrugge won his amateur title fight at the Operation Octagon event in Sterling, VA. The fight was the main event of the night following 32 other fights! Being that there were so many fights on the card, the anxious Crazy 88 team had to wait until almost 2am for the fight to start.
The kids were very excited to watch Coach Jon fight and even made him a video before the event!
Knowing that his opponent was a kickboxer, coach Jon was very ready to trade striking combinations. After the first twenty seconds on the feet coach, Jon took his opponent down. From there on out, it was a great display of the brazilian jiu jitsu system. For the jiu jitsu students who were able to attend the fight, they witnessed a great display of the shovel sweep transition in action. After a couple good defenses to submissions from the opposing fighter, Coach Jon mixed great Ground and Pound in with a slick rear naked choke to finish the fight toward the end of the first round.
Winning the fight put another first round finish onto Coach Jon’s record making it 6-0 with five first round finishes as well as making him the Operation Octagon amateur light weight champion! Congratulations Coach Jon and stay tuned to find out when Coach Jon will fight next!
