Chris Kim AKA “Japanese Emo” was promoted tonight to the rank of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt. Chris is the first Blue Belt of 2012 and has proven himself on the competition mats. From an inauspicious start where he was submitted in 30 seconds at a NAGA, he kept training and improving his grappling skills.
Last year, he took Silver at the Miami International Open in the Featherweight division, winning three matches before losing in the Finals. Due to his inexperience with weight cutting sports, he weighed in at Light Feather but still fought admirably. Just this weekend, Chris won 4 straight to win the Chicago Winter Open, another IBJJF event, this time in the Light Feather division. Throw a couple Gold medals at some local NAGA and Good Fight competitions and he pushed himself through the initial phase of BJJ training. We expect Chris to keep training hard and producing results at the Blue Belt level in the future.
Congratulations to Chris Kim!
