On Saturday, November 12th, the Crazy 88 team assembled in Winchester, Virginia to show their support for Coach Jon in his fifth amateur Mixed Martial Arts fight. Fight time began on Friday evening with the weigh ins. Considering Coach Jon’s food goes straight from the ground to his mouth in his super clean, unprocessed, organic diet, he weighed in as expected right on his fight weight of 155 pounds. After making weight it was time to begin the process of re-hydrating and refueling. For Jon these processes are an art that he has mastered, so he was back at 170 pounds by the time of the fight. After a good meal and a night of rest he would be ready for his bout the following evening.

As the crowd gathered at Onslaught Fights: Hostile Intentions, the fighters and coaches prepared behind the scenes. In a back room secluded from the audience, the fighters warmed up with the coaches. Being the last fight before the intermission it gave the 88 spectators plenty of time to anticipate Jon’s match. Finally, the time came for Coach Jon and the entourage of Crazy 88 coaches to emerge from the blue corner. ¬†As the song “Undertaker” was cued it meant only one thing – Jon “Devastator” Delbrugge was being called to the ring. Coming in with a strong punch followed by a leg kick, Jon quickly set the tone for the fight and gained control of his opponent. At the end of the first round Jon submitted his opponent via rear naked choke and won the match maintaining his undefeated record.

As with victory there is also defeat. After a ref stoppage in the second round, Alfonso “Big Sal” Washington lost to his 265 pound opponent. Rather than looking on this loss purely as that, it is better viewed as a time to learn and grow. Through this experience it can be seen the importance of identifying your weakness as a fighter and working diligently to improve them. We are pleased to announce that in true Big Sal form we can expect to see his crazy self in the gym despite the stitches. He will be back on the mats working on his technique to ensure future success.

Crazy 88 MMA's Jon Delbrugge improved to a perfect 5-0.
