Crazy 88 MMA competitors win Gold from white to black belt

Crazy 88 Mixed Martial Arts was overflowing with triumphs and medals at the first-ever IBJJF Washington DC Open 2017. Under the Team Lloyd Irvin affiliation, including Crazy 88 MMA and Ivey League MMA, the team had 72 competitors (before entering 22 open class divisions) that competed on September 9, 2017, in its home stomping ground of Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Hyattsville. Humble Brag – Team Lloyd Irvin scored 401 points securing its First Place team trophy, which is more points than the second and third teams combined. The team brought home 38 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals, and 17 Bronze Medals across age, weight, belt, and gender divisions. Of the medals, 9 Golds and 10 Silvers were in the Open Divisions. A dozen more competitors worked the scoreboards and were mat coordinators in the hopes of competing at the next event. While there are too many stories to tell, we will recap the highlights.

Black Belt Highlights

Tim Spriggs made his comeback debut with a Gold Medal in the Super-Heavy Black Belt Division. He closed out the Black Belt Open Class with teammate Mahamed Aly.

Tye Ryan Murphy took double Silver in the Masters 1 Black Belt Medium-Heavy and Open Classes.

Aarae Alexander represented the women’s team by winning double Gold in the Black Belt Middle and Open Classes.

Brown Belt Highlights

Jon Delbrugge took Gold in the Brown Belt Medium-Heavy Division and closed out the Open Class with teammate Angelo Claiborne.

Vannessa Griffin won Gold in the Brown Belt Medium-Heavy Division and Silver in the Open Class.

Purple Belt Highlights

Byung Ju Lee won his first Gold medal at Purple Belt in the adult Light Division.

Eduardo Viana locked in the double Gold in the Master 1 Medium-Heavy and Open Classes.

Lakita Patterson won Gold in the Master 1 Middle Division and closed out the Open Class with teammate Terea Ives, who also took Bronze in the Medium-Heavy Division.

James Shupps secured the Gold Medal in the Master 3 Feather Division.

Jeff Mueller brought home double Silver in the Masters 3 Light Division and Open Classes.

Blue Belt Highlights

Roya Darvishian, Lauren Crino, and Leah Mays all won Gold medals across the Feather, Light, and Medium Heavy Divisions. Roya and Leah closed out the Blue Belt Open Class with Gold and Silver.

Nathan Allen locked in the Gold medal in the Master 1 Middle Division.

Jeremy Collins took Silver in adult Blue Belt Open Class.

Stephen Riddle accumulated double Silver in the Master 2 Light and Open Classes.

Juvenile Belt Highlights

Meghan Sirico battled for Gold in the juvenile Blue Belt Feather Division.

Brian Anderson won his first Gold medal in the juvenile White Belt Feather Division.
