Tonight’s class went well. I field tested my corrected x guard game with good results. Also, I saw a purple belt make the exact same mistake against the same blue belt that had defeated my x guard the night before, with the same result. This did two things for me. For one, it allowed me permission to not beat up on myself so much. Secondly, it gave me an opportunity to watch the blue belt do to someone else what he did to me. Also, today is my second anniversary in jiu jitsu. It’s hard to describe just how thoroughly jiu jitsu has changed my life. I believe it was either Jigoro Kano or Helio Gracie who said that if everyone trained jiu jitsu, the world would be a better place. I don’t know if that’s actually true, but I do know that jiu jitsu has dramatically improved the quality of my own life. Without question, I’m in better physical and psychological condition now than I have been in years.
