My drilling partner tonight was a blue belt that I hadn’t met before. I found myself in an awkward situation, in that, he didn’t seem to have as good a grasp of the techniques as me, yet I didn’t feel comfortable offering corrections since I’m still a white belt. This almost never happens with the regular blue belts, which leads me to believe he got his blue belt somewhere else. On the other hand, I had to work really hard just to hold my own against the regular blue belts during sparring. I’m looking forward to advancing to blue belt in the near future. However, tonight’s class served as a reminder that I would rather be a way over qualified white belt than a way under qualified blue belt any day.
