Tonight, as I got out of the car, I wrist locked myself! As I braced myself on my left hand to get up, I put my wrist in such an angle as to send shooting pains up my arm. I don’t need to wrestle anybody. I can submit myself! The pain subsided, but then flared up again during drilling. I was worried that I would not be able to continue, but I babied it and was able to complete drilling. I was worried about sparring, since I’m not good enough to spar without my hands. Fortunately, my wrist seemed to loosen up half way through sparring, and I was able to get through the rest of class without having to take a break. I wish I could have been in a better physical condition, so that I could have done more during sparring. On the other hand, jiu jitsu is all about improvising and working with what you’ve got. My left wrist is hurting? Great! Let me figure out what I can do with only one hand and two legs.
