We went over a number of moves during the techniques portion of the class. Luckily, there were only a couple of moves that were not familiar to me. Mainly, it was an opportunity to drill basic moves into muscle memory. Some people don’t like drilling, but I actually enjoy it. It reminds me of my Judo days when I would practice a single throw hundreds of times. There is something very calming about it, since the movement is the only thing that exists at that moment. Later on, during sparring, I even found myself automatically moving into certain positions that I had drilled a lot in recent classes. Those are the moments in sparring that let me know I’m making progress. I’m still weak in a few key positions, but I would say that if the me of today wrestled the me of six months ago, the me of six months ago wouldn’t stand a chance.
