Tonight, in addition to drills, we did a healthy amount of sparring. Judo sparring, in this case, primarily means trying to throw your opponent to the ground without yourself being thrown. In jiu jitsu, by contrast, the takedown would only be step one, rather than the final objective. Since almost nobody in the class had a wrestling background, I had a pretty big advantage over my sparring partners, few of them having done as much judo as me. I even threw two of the blue belts, both of whom regularly outclass me on the ground. Even so, I can tell that my judo is pretty rusty compared to when I was in my prime. On the bright side, I can feel some of it coming back, even within the last few classes.
