Well, I didn’t get dumped on my head tonight, so that’s good. I was right about my neck. It felt fine the next day. I’m making steady progress on my split pass. In fact, I nearly pulled it off against a blue belt tonight. But, just as I was sinking into side control, he managed to escape. My next task will be to figure out how to stabilize into side control, once I’ve achieved the guard pass. With the exception of beginning white belts, nobody is going to simply lay there and let you settle into side control (unless they’re really tired, or deliberately want to work on their submission defense). They’ll either granby roll into turtle, or they will turn into you and try to reestablish guard. If they go to turtle, you can at least try to fight for their back, but if they reestablish guard, you’re back to square one.
