I’m still having trouble with developing my guard passing strategy. I thought I was making progress last class, but tonight, nothing seemed to be working for me. Something is just not clicking, and I’m not sure what it is. Nobody I went against tonight was the slightest bit threatened by my guard passing attempts, and I was repeatedly reversed and/or submitted. Of course, we haven’t actually been drilling any guard passing techniques for the past month. Everything we’ve been going over is related to attacking from guard. As a result, my guard work has steadily improved, but I feel like there’s a gigantic hole in my game when it comes to guard passing. I’ve been trying to experiment with different things during sparring, but my only progress is coming from trial and error…mostly error and very little progress to show for it. Sooner or later, I’m hoping things will fall into place. If not, I guess I’ll be forced to continue developing my defenses. In particular, I was getting arm-barred by everyone tonight. Maybe, tomorrow’s class will go better. If not, at least it will be the weekend!
