Tonight went much better than any of the classes last week. For one thing, hardly any upper belts showed up (which meant I didn’t have to work so hard to not get submitted). For another, I remembered to breathe and to relax my arms whenever possible. After the sparring, our resident black belt told me that he believed my guard would be impossible to pass for white and blue belts within another three months. I believe he is right. I can feel my guard getting better and better. In fact, only one person passed my guard tonight, and that was mainly because it gave me an opportunity to rest in side control rather than continue to defend his pass attempts. Even so, I was able to get back to guard without too much trouble. With a few of the tips that the black belt passed along tonight, I feel like it should be even easier for me to prevent certain kinds of guard passes, even after getting tired.
