Tonight was the last class before tomorrow’s phase belt test. During class, we reviewed some of the techniques that will be on the test. I feel like I should at least be able to demonstrate the required techniques, even if I’m not winning many matches right now. Of course, the level of skill of the students in the mixed-level classes is clearly a step up from the students in the beginning classes that I had been attending for the last few months. I have to keep reminding myself that I shouldn’t expect to win against students with so much more mat time. Now is the time to learn techniques, and work on positional survival skills. With any luck, winning will come later. Even if I don’t end up winning that much, at least I’m getting in shape.
