Julius Park’s Results

  • Adult Gi Purple Belt Middleweight (<181 lbs) – GOLD

Julius brought home a 1st place trophy, defeating three opponents at Carlos Machado’s Winter Wars tournament in Dallas, Texas. In the quarterfinals. He lifted his opponent from the 1/2-guard, spun underneath, and submitted him in 12 seconds with a kneebar. The semifinals against a grappler from Corkran Academy of BJJ started off slower with Julius working the gripping systems and negating his opponent’s takedown attempts. Julius scored first with a takedown and then repeatedly forced his opponent to turn to his knees with his pass attempts. As his opponent turned, Julius set up a flying triangle (a special thanks to Ryan Hall for his triangle seminar last Tuesday). The triangle was tight but his opponent was not willing to tap and managed to squirm out. Julius added two more sweeps to the score and won 6-0. The final match was against a very strong grappler from William Vandry’s academy. Julius slid behind him and tried to take his back but his opponent reacted quickly and only gave up two points for the sweep. The rest of the match was Julius trying to pass and his opponent trying to sweep. With a few seconds left, Julius managed to completely clear his opponent’s legs and was forcing his opponent to his back but time ran out before points could be called.

A good start to the 2006 season!
